Dr. Edward K. Walker
Dr. Edward Walker was born in South Carolina. He received his undergraduate degree at The University of Florida, and his Doctorate from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. He began his practice in Tallahassee in March of 1950, and in 1987 opened a branch office in Perry, Florida. Dr. Walker is a board certified Optometric Physician.
Dr. Walker has served as President of the Florida Optometric Association, Northwest Florida Optometric Association, Tallahassee Kiwanis Club, Tallahassee United Way, Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce, and the Florida State Board of Optometry (where he served for 23 years). Dr. Walker received the "Edward K. Walker, Optometrist of the Decade" Award in 1980, and also the Florida Optometric Association's "Lifetime Achievement Award" in 2000. For eight years he served as a member & vice chair of Southern College of Optometry Board of Trustees. He received an honorary degree of Doctor of Ocular Science from Southern College of Optometry. The Admittance Committee of the American Academy of Optometry serves to determine the competence of those who apply for Fellowship in the Academy. For his ten years of service as chairman of the Admittance Committee, he was awarded the Eminent Service Award. Dr. Walker is a Master Mason and received an award "For many years of Leadership and Dedication in promotion of the principals of Masonry and the Order of DeMolay". In 1995, he was inducted into the Florida DeMolay Hall of Fame.
He is a Christian and serves as a deacon for the East Hill Baptist Church. He is married to Dr. Judith Clay Walker, a Pediatric Optometrist, and has three children. Dr. Walker specializes in vision care for the entire family and focuses on low vision care for patients with impaired vision. He prescribes contact lenses, diagnoses and treats diseases of the eye, and also enjoys co-managing patients with eye surgeons. He loves the general practice of optometry, including primary care.
